Festival and Market update May 20, 2015
The film has been doing well at festival screenings, domestically and abroad.
My sister Jillian represented at the most recent screening, at the Black Hills Film Festival in Hill City, South Dakota. She was joined by one of the main characters in the film, Sam Hampton, along with his wife Phyllis. Sam shone at the Q&A after the film, he is always the showman, taking after his mother Wanda! Also in attendance were relatives of Dave Treick, also an interviewee in the film. The film screened on a Friday, luckily as it turned out as a blizzard hit the next day and the rest of festival had to be cancelled due to snow.
JIllian and I attended the film’s screening at the Durango Independent Film Festival. What a great festival that was, both screenings were sold out and the crowds hugely responsive to the film. The film came away with the jury award for Best Feature Length Documentary.
My friend Ulli Reichhold came along for the film’s screening at the Eureka Springs Indie Film Fest, where the film won Best Documentary and Best Female Filmmaker. Ulli was with me when we shot the very first interview for the film, of my great Aunt Ina, back in 1993. Who could have guessed the importance of that long ago interview! Thanks again to friend Lisa Raymond for encouraging me to shoot that interview, and providing the camera to do so.
We are working on a screening in the Dallas/Fort Worth area this coming fall. Stay tuned as details develop.
Meanwhile, we are actively seeking distribution for the film. To this end, the film is a part of the “Videotheque” documentary film market, at the Sheffield Doc Fest, coming up the first week of June in Sheffield, England. If you know any decision makers attending the festival, please let them know about the film!
You can find more info about it here:
The next screening will be at the Female Eye Film Festival, in Toronto, Canada, June 16 to 21. I am hoping to attend but don’t have my plans firmed up yet.
I have been posting regularly to the film’s Facebook page. For the most up to date news, please click here:
